Who Should Have a PRIVATE HEALTH CHECK
Who Should Have a PRIVATE HEALTH CHECK
Private health checks are not only for people with existing health concerns. They are useful for anyone who wants a clear, current picture of their health, particularly where NHS access to preventive health services is limited.
Who typically books a health check at Private Medical Clinic:
- People in their 30s and 40s who have not had a routine health review for years. Conditions including high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and early type 2 diabetes develop without obvious symptoms. A health check identifies them before they cause problems.
- People with a family history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or cancer, who want earlier monitoring of relevant markers than the NHS routinely offers.
- People returning to exercise after a long period of inactivity, who want a cardiovascular and blood panel baseline before starting.
- Senior executives and professionals who want an annual health review outside NHS appointment cycles.
- People who want written results to share with their GP, insurance provider, or employer.

What Your Health Check Results REVEAL
What Your Health Check Results REVEAL
The blood tests included in your health check give a picture of several key body systems at once.
Cardiovascular risk. Your lipid profile, including total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides, combined with your blood pressure reading, allows your doctor to calculate your ten-year cardiovascular risk and advise on any changes that would reduce it.
Blood glucose and diabetes risk. A fasting glucose or HbA1c result indicates whether your blood sugar is in the normal range, in the pre-diabetic range that needs monitoring, or in the range that flags type 2 diabetes and requires management.
Thyroid function. Thyroid disorders are among the most frequently undiagnosed conditions in UK adults. An underactive thyroid causes fatigue, weight gain, and low mood. An overactive thyroid causes anxiety, weight loss, and heart rhythm changes. A single blood test identifies either.
Liver and kidney function. Both are included in a standard blood panel and flag conditions that benefit from early management, including early fatty liver disease.
Full blood count. Identifies anaemia, infection indicators, and blood cell abnormalities.

Corporate and Executive HEALTH CHECKS
Corporate and Executive HEALTH CHECKS
Executive and corporate health checks are among the most frequently requested packages at PMC. Businesses commission health checks for senior staff as a retention benefit, for new hires as part of onboarding, and as part of employee wellbeing programmes.
An executive health check at PMC includes a comprehensive blood panel, cardiovascular assessment, ECG, and a full consultation with a GMC-registered GP. Results are issued in writing and discussed with the patient at the appointment.
- Early identification of conditions that could affect a senior employee’s performance or lead to extended absence.
- A valued employee benefit, particularly where NHS access to preventive health is limited.
- Written results employees can share with their own GP or specialist where follow-up is needed.
- 10-clinic network: one arrangement covers employees across Birmingham, London, Manchester, and beyond.

Private Health Checks: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A standard health check includes a full blood panel (cholesterol, blood glucose, liver function, kidney function, thyroid function, full blood count), blood pressure measurement, BMI and body composition review, urine analysis, and a clinical consultation with a GMC-registered GP who reviews your results with you before you leave. An ECG is included in standard and premium packages. A written results summary is issued after every check.
Most health check appointments take between 45 minutes and one hour. Extended executive packages may take longer. You will be given an estimated duration when you book.
Your doctor will go through your results with you at the appointment. Where some results are not yet available (typically certain blood tests that require laboratory processing), these are followed up as soon as they return. A written summary covering all results is issued following the appointment.
For most adults in good health, an annual health check provides a useful ongoing picture and allows year-on-year comparison of key markers. People with identified risk factors, a strong family history, or markers requiring monitoring may benefit from more frequent checks. Your doctor will advise at the appointment.
An executive health check is a more comprehensive version of a standard health check, typically including a broader blood panel, cancer markers (such as PSA for men), an extended GP consultation, and sometimes additional tests such as lung function or vision screening. PMC offers packages at different levels. Contact us to discuss which is appropriate for your situation.
Yes. We offer corporate and executive health check packages for businesses of all sizes. Employers can arrange centralised billing so costs are invoiced to the business rather than charged to employees. Contact us to discuss group arrangements.
No. You can book a private health check directly online or by phone without any referral from your NHS GP. There are no waiting lists.
Health check ups at PMC start from £[PRICE], with packages available at different levels depending on what tests you want included. The written results summary is included in all packages, with no additional fees on the day.
If your package includes a fasting blood glucose or lipid profile, you will need to fast for at least 10 hours beforehand (water is fine). We will confirm this when you book. If your package does not include fasting tests, no preparation is needed.
The NHS offers a Health Check for people aged 40 to 74 who are not already on a disease management programme, but access varies by location and the check is less comprehensive than a private health check. A private health check is more thorough, more flexible in timing, and not dependent on NHS availability.
Your doctor will review your results with you at the appointment and explain anything that needs attention. If a result requires further investigation, we arrange a referral the same day, either to an NHS service or a private specialist, depending on your preference and the clinical situation. You will not receive an abnormal result in the post without a doctor having discussed it with you first.
Cancer markers such as PSA (prostate-specific antigen) for men and CA125 for women are included in premium and executive packages. They can also be added to a standard check on request. Your doctor will discuss what these results mean in context, as elevated markers require interpretation alongside other clinical findings rather than being read in isolation.
A health check is a preventive health service: a broad clinical review of your overall health across multiple systems. An occupational health assessment is a specific clinical process focused on your fitness for a particular job role and results in a written report for HR use. Both are available at PMC and can be arranged independently or together.
