- Business travellers and contractors departing via East Midlands Airport to international destinations with yellow fever certificate requirements.
- Any traveller whose destination requires the ICVP as a condition of entry, regardless of departure country.
- Those transiting through a yellow fever endemic country, where the connecting journey can trigger certificate requirements at the next border.

- Those whose previous certificate was issued before 11 July 2016 and who want a fresh lifelong ICVP.
Yellow Fever Vaccine for Business and PROJECT TRAVEL

Yellow Fever Vaccine for Business and PROJECT TRAVEL
Derby and the surrounding East Midlands region has a strong industrial and manufacturing base, with a significant number of professionals and contractors travelling internationally for project work. Travel to West Africa, in particular for engineering, energy, mining and construction roles, frequently brings yellow fever certificate requirements.
Many countries in sub-Saharan Africa that are destinations for project and contract work, including Nigeria, Gabon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea, require the ICVP as a condition of entry or under employer occupational health policies.
Our Derby clinic is a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, authorised to administer Stamaril and issue the official ICVP. The certificate is stamped and issued on the day of vaccination. With East Midlands Airport a short drive away, scheduling vaccination before departure is straightforward when booked in advance.
Same-day appointments are available. The ICVP becomes valid ten days after vaccination, so book as soon as travel is confirmed.
Timing Your Vaccination Before EAST MIDLANDS DEPARTURE
Timing Your Vaccination Before EAST MIDLANDS DEPARTURE
The ICVP does not become valid on the day of vaccination. It takes effect ten days after the injection, and border authorities at countries that require it will refuse entry to travellers whose certificate is dated fewer than ten days before arrival.
For travellers using East Midlands Airport, this means the vaccine must be booked at least ten days before your departure date. Same-day appointments are often available at our Derby clinic, but the ten-day validity delay means early booking is always preferable.
If your departure is within the next fortnight, contact us when booking and we will confirm whether your certificate will be valid in time. If it will not, your clinician will advise on options, including vaccination for personal protection ahead of a return journey certificate becoming valid.
Yellow fever can be combined with other travel vaccines at the same appointment. We offer typhoid, hepatitis A, meningitis ACWY, rabies and others for those travelling to multiple-risk destinations.

Who Should Not Have the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE?

Who Should Not Have the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE?
Stamaril is a live attenuated vaccine and is not suitable for all travellers. Your clinician at our Derby clinic will assess suitability at your pre-vaccination consultation before any injection is given.
The vaccine is contraindicated in:
- Infants under nine months of age. Under six months is an absolute contraindication; those aged six to eight months may be vaccinated only in exceptional circumstances when travel risk is very high.
- Immunocompromised individuals: those on immunosuppressive therapy, people with HIV with significantly reduced CD4 counts, and those with primary immunodeficiency disorders.
- Those with a severe egg allergy or confirmed allergy to any vaccine component, as Stamaril is produced in eggs.
- Individuals with a thymus disorder, including thymoma, thymectomy, myasthenia gravis or DiGeorge syndrome.
- Pregnant women (vaccination is generally avoided; it may be considered when travel to an endemic country is unavoidable and the risk is high).
Travellers over 60 who have never been vaccinated face a slightly elevated risk of rare but serious adverse events and require individual clinical assessment before vaccination.
Where vaccination is not possible, a medical exemption letter can be issued. Not all borders accept it.

Yellow Fever Vaccine Derby: FAQs
At our designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre in Derby city centre. We administer Stamaril and issue the official ICVP at the same appointment, with same-day availability and no GP referral required.
If your destination requires the ICVP, yes. Many countries in sub-Saharan Africa require it for all arriving travellers, including those on contract or project assignments. Your employer’s occupational health requirements may also specify yellow fever vaccination. Your clinician will confirm what applies to your destination.
Current pricing is on our booking page. The ICVP is included in the appointment fee. Call us for a quote before booking.
A medical exemption letter can be issued at our Derby clinic if you have a clinical contraindication. This is not accepted at all borders; your clinician will advise on which destinations are likely to accept it.
Mild reactions are common: soreness at the injection site, mild headache, low-grade fever and muscle aches for a few days. Two rare but serious adverse events exist: YEL-AVD and YEL-AND. Both are extremely rare, estimated at around one in 250,000 to one in 400,000 doses. Risk is slightly higher in those over 60. Your clinician will discuss this before vaccination.
Yes. Our Derby clinic is conveniently located for travellers departing from East Midlands Airport. The ICVP becomes valid ten days after vaccination, so the vaccine must be given at least ten days before you arrive in a country that requires it. Book as soon as your travel dates are confirmed.
A YFVC is a clinic designated by NaTHNaC to administer the yellow fever vaccine and issue the ICVP. Only registered YFVCs can legally issue the certificate. Our Derby clinic holds this designation. A GP surgery, pharmacy or unregistered clinic cannot provide a valid ICVP.
Under WHO guidance updated in 2016, a single dose provides lifelong protection for most healthy adults. The ICVP is valid for life. Some borders may still query certificates issued before 2016; re-vaccination is an option for a clean document.
Yes. We offer typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningitis ACWY, rabies and other travel vaccines at our Derby clinic. Most can be given at the same appointment.
