Who Needs the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE IN LONDON?
Yellow fever vaccination is required or recommended for a wide range of long-haul destinations in Africa and South America, and for any traveller whose route passes through a country with active certificate requirements.

- Travellers to sub-Saharan Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the vaccine is required or strongly recommended for entry.
- Those visiting Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador or Colombia, particularly if travelling to jungle, rural or Amazonian areas where yellow fever transmission is present.
- Any traveller whose destination requires proof of vaccination as a condition of entry, regardless of departure country.
- Those with a connecting flight through a yellow fever endemic country, where the transit route alone may trigger certificate requirements at the next destination.
- Business travellers, aid workers, journalists or researchers spending time in endemic regions.
- Those going on safari, into conservation areas, or on extended overland routes through multiple African countries.
- Travellers who need the ICVP for visa or immigration purposes before their trip.
- Anyone whose previous certificate was issued before 11 July 2016 and who wants a fresh lifelong document before departure.
Book Before Your Long-Haul Departure: TIMING THE ICVP

Book Before Your Long-Haul Departure: TIMING THE ICVP
Yellow fever is one of the few vaccines where timing is a legal requirement, not just a recommendation. The International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) does not become valid until ten days after the injection. Border authorities at countries that require it will not admit travellers with a certificate dated fewer than ten days before arrival.
For London travellers, this means the vaccine must be booked at least ten days before you board your outbound flight. With Heathrow, Gatwick and City Airport all serving direct routes to yellow fever endemic countries, getting the timing right is straightforward if you book early.
If you are leaving within the next two weeks, contact us when you book and we will confirm whether your ICVP will be valid in time. Where multiple travel vaccines are needed, combining them at one appointment is the most efficient approach. We offer yellow fever alongside typhoid, hepatitis A, meningitis ACWY, rabies and other travel vaccines at our Marylebone clinic.
Is Yellow Fever Vaccine Available ON THE NHS IN LONDON?
Is Yellow Fever Vaccine Available ON THE NHS IN LONDON?
No. Yellow fever vaccination is not provided by the NHS and is not available from GP practices. In the UK, it may only be administered and certificated by registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres. Our Marylebone clinic holds this designation.
Access to NHS travel clinics in London is limited and appointment availability inconsistent, particularly for time-sensitive travel. A private YFVC appointment offers a predictable route to both the vaccine and the ICVP certificate before departure.
The ICVP is an official WHO document. It cannot be obtained from a pharmacy, an online provider or an unregistered clinic. Travellers who arrive at a border without it, at a country that requires it, face refusal of entry or compulsory vaccination on arrival.
Our Marylebone clinic is centrally located with no GP referral needed. Same-day appointments are available, and the ICVP is issued and stamped at the same visit.

Who Cannot Have the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE?

Who Cannot Have the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE?
Stamaril is a live attenuated vaccine and is not appropriate for all travellers. Your clinician at our Marylebone clinic will assess suitability before any vaccination is given.
The vaccine is contraindicated in:
- Infants under nine months of age. Under six months is an absolute contraindication; infants aged six to eight months may be vaccinated only in exceptional circumstances.
- Immunocompromised individuals: those on immunosuppressive therapy, people with HIV with significantly reduced CD4 counts, and those with primary immunodeficiency disorders.
- Those with a severe egg allergy or a confirmed allergy to any component of the vaccine, as Stamaril is produced in eggs.
- Individuals with a thymus disorder, including thymoma, thymectomy, myasthenia gravis or DiGeorge syndrome.
- Pregnant women (vaccination is generally avoided; it may be considered when travel to an endemic country is unavoidable and yellow fever risk is high).
Travellers over 60 who have never been vaccinated face a slightly elevated risk of rare but serious adverse events and require individual clinical assessment before vaccination.
Where vaccination is not possible, a medical exemption letter can be issued. This is not accepted at all borders; your clinician will advise on your destination.

Yellow Fever Vaccine London: FAQs
At our designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre in Marylebone. We administer Stamaril and issue the official ICVP at the same appointment, with same-day availability and no GP referral required.
The International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis is an official WHO document. It can only be issued by a clinic registered as a Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. A GP surgery, pharmacy or unregistered clinic cannot legally provide a valid ICVP. Our Marylebone clinic holds this designation.
Same-day appointments are often available at our Marylebone clinic. The ICVP becomes valid ten days after vaccination, so the vaccine must be given at least ten days before you arrive in a country that requires it. Book as soon as your travel is confirmed.
Let us know when you book. If the ICVP will not be valid in time for your departure, your clinician will advise on options. Some travellers vaccinate for personal protection even when the certificate timing is tight.
If you have a clinical contraindication, a medical exemption letter can be issued at our Marylebone clinic. This is not universally accepted at borders. Your clinician will advise on which destinations are likely to accept it.
Mild reactions are common: soreness at the injection site, mild headache, low-grade fever and muscle aches for a few days. Two rare but serious adverse events exist: YEL-AVD (resembles severe yellow fever) and YEL-AND (affects the nervous system). Both are extremely rare, estimated at around one in 250,000 to one in 400,000 doses. Risk is slightly higher in those over 60 and those with thymus conditions. Your clinician will discuss this before administering the vaccine.
This depends on your specific destination and route. Many countries in sub-Saharan Africa require the ICVP as a condition of entry for all travellers. Others require it only from those arriving from or transiting through endemic countries. Some South American countries apply requirements to specific regions. Requirements can change; your clinician will confirm what applies to your itinerary.
Current pricing is on our booking page. The ICVP is included in the appointment fee. Call us for a quote before booking.
Under WHO guidance updated in 2016, a single dose provides lifelong protection for most healthy adults. The ICVP is valid for life. Some borders, particularly in Africa, may still question older certificates. Re-vaccination is an option if you want an up-to-date document.
Yes, from nine months of age. Under six months is an absolute contraindication. Please mention the child’s age when booking and we will confirm suitability.
Yes. We offer typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningitis ACWY, rabies and other travel vaccines at our Marylebone clinic. Most can be given at the same appointment. Tell us your destination and travel dates when booking.
