Manchester Airport serves direct and connecting routes to yellow fever endemic countries across Africa and South America. Travellers departing from terminals 1, 2 and 3 to destinations including Lagos, Accra, Nairobi, Sao Paulo and Bogota may be required to present a valid ICVP on arrival.
The ICVP does not take effect on the day of vaccination. It becomes valid ten days after the injection. For any traveller whose destination country requires it, the vaccine must be given at least ten days before departure from Manchester Airport.
Our designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre in Manchester city centre can vaccinate and issue the ICVP at the same appointment. Same-day appointments are available. Book as soon as your travel is confirmed to ensure the certificate is valid for your departure date.
If you are travelling at short notice, contact us when booking and we will advise on whether the certificate will be valid in time for your outbound flight.
Is Yellow Fever Vaccine Available on the NHS IN MANCHESTER?
Is Yellow Fever Vaccine Available on the NHS IN MANCHESTER?
No. The NHS does not provide the yellow fever vaccine, and GP practices do not offer it. Only designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres can administer and certify it, and all YFVCs operate privately. Our Manchester clinic holds this designation from NaTHNaC.
For Manchester travellers, a private YFVC appointment is the only route to both the vaccine and a valid ICVP before travel.
The ICVP is an official WHO document and the only evidence accepted at borders for yellow fever entry requirements. Arriving without it at a country that requires it can result in refusal of entry or compulsory vaccination on arrival.
Same-day appointments are available at our Manchester clinic with no GP referral required. You can combine Yellow fever with other travel vaccines, including typhoid, hepatitis A, meningitis ACWY, and rabies, at the same appointment.

Who Cannot Have the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE?

Who Cannot Have the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE?
Stamaril is a live attenuated vaccine and is not appropriate for all travellers. Your clinician at our Manchester clinic will assess suitability before administering any vaccine.
The vaccine is contraindicated in:
- Infants under nine months of age. Under six months is an absolute contraindication; those aged six to eight months may be vaccinated only in exceptional circumstances when travel risk is very high.
- Immunocompromised individuals: those on immunosuppressive therapy, people with HIV with significantly reduced CD4 counts, and those with primary immunodeficiency conditions.
- Those with a severe egg allergy or confirmed allergy to any vaccine component, as Stamaril is produced in eggs.
- Individuals with a thymus disorder, including thymoma, thymectomy, myasthenia gravis or DiGeorge syndrome.
- Pregnant women (vaccination is generally avoided; individual assessment required when travel to an endemic region is unavoidable and risk is high).
Travellers over 60 who have not previously received the vaccine carry a slightly elevated risk of rare but serious adverse events and require individual clinical assessment.
If vaccination is contraindicated, we can issue a medical exemption letter at our Manchester clinic. Not all borders accept it; your clinician will advise.

Yellow Fever Vaccine Manchester: FAQs
At our designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre in Manchester city centre. We administer Stamaril and issue the official ICVP at the same appointment, with same-day availability and no GP referral required.
Many sub-Saharan African countries require the ICVP for all arriving travellers, including Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, DRC, Cameroon and Sierra Leone. Others, including Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, require it from travellers arriving from endemic countries. In South America, Brazil requires documentation for travel to certain states. Your clinician will confirm current requirements for your itinerary.
Current pricing is on our booking page. The ICVP is included in the appointment fee. Call us for a quote before booking.
Under WHO guidance updated in 2016, a single dose provides lifelong protection for most healthy adults. The ICVP is valid for life. Some borders may still query older certificates; re-vaccination is an option.
Yes. We offer typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningitis ACWY, rabies and other travel vaccines at our Manchester clinic. Most can be given at the same appointment.
Yes. Our Manchester clinic is in the city centre, a short journey from the airport. The ICVP becomes valid 10 days after vaccination, so you must receive the vaccine at least 10 days before arriving in a country that requires it. Book as soon as your travel dates are confirmed.
A YFVC is a clinic designated by NaTHNaC to administer the yellow fever vaccine and issue the ICVP. Only registered YFVCs can legally issue the certificate. Our Manchester clinic holds this designation. A GP surgery, pharmacy or unregistered clinic cannot provide a valid ICVP.
Same-day appointments are often available. The ICVP becomes valid ten days after vaccination, so book at least ten days before your departure. If your trip is imminent, let us know when booking.
Our Manchester clinic can issue a medical exemption letter. This is not accepted at all borders; your clinician will advise on which destinations are likely to accept it.
Mild reactions are common: soreness at the injection site, mild headache, low-grade fever and muscle aches for a few days. Two rare but serious adverse events exist: YEL-AVD and YEL-AND. Both are extremely rare, estimated at about 1 in 250,000 to 1 in 400,000 doses. Risk is slightly higher in those over 60. Your clinician will discuss this before vaccination.
