Who Is the FLU VACCINE SUITABLE FOR?
We administer the flu vaccine to adults and children at all our clinics. The vaccine is recommended annually and available year-round, not just during the NHS autumn and winter campaign.

- Adults over 65, for whom flu carries the highest risk of complications.
- Pregnant women, at any stage of pregnancy.
- Adults and children with long-term health conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, asthma and COPD.
- Carers and those who live with someone at high risk from flu.
- Healthcare workers and those in patient-facing roles.
- Children from age two, privately and year-round.
- Anyone who missed the NHS winter campaign and wants protection.
- Adults who want a flu jab at short notice, without waiting for a pharmacy or GP slot.
Private vs NHS Flu Jab: WHAT's THE DIFFERENCE?

Private vs NHS Flu Jab: WHAT's THE DIFFERENCE?
The NHS offers the flu vaccine free of charge each year to specific groups: adults over 65, pregnant women, those with certain health conditions, frontline health and social care workers, and children aged two to eleven. If you fall into one of these groups, you can get the NHS flu jab free through your GP or pharmacy from October onwards.
Private flu vaccination at our clinics is available year-round, to anyone, regardless of NHS eligibility. Common reasons patients choose private vaccination:
- You are not in an NHS-eligible group but want protection against flu.
- You want a same-day appointment rather than waiting for an NHS slot in autumn.
- You want your jab in September or earlier, before the NHS campaign begins.
- You need a flu vaccination certificate for an employer or occupational health requirement.
- You prefer a clinic appointment with a brief pre-vaccination consultation rather than a pharmacy counter service.
- You have questions about the vaccine and want time with a clinician before going ahead.

Why the Flu Vaccine MATTERS EVERY YEAR
Why the Flu Vaccine MATTERS EVERY YEAR
Influenza is a respiratory infection that causes fever, fatigue, muscle aches, cough and sore throat, often leaving adults unable to work for several days. For most healthy people, flu is a significant inconvenience. For older adults, pregnant women and those with underlying health conditions, it can lead to pneumonia, secondary bacterial infections and hospitalisation.
In the UK, influenza is estimated to cause between 10,000 and 20,000 deaths in an average winter, with higher figures in years when circulating strains are particularly aggressive, or the vaccine match is less precise. The UK Health Security Agency monitors seasonal flu each year and updates its vaccination guidance accordingly.
The flu vaccine significantly reduces the chance of catching influenza and, for those who are vaccinated but still contract the virus, reduces illness severity and the likelihood of complications requiring hospital treatment. This is particularly well documented in adults over 65 and in pregnant women.
Annual vaccination is necessary because the influenza virus mutates each year and last year's vaccine does not provide reliable protection against this year's strains.

How the Flu Vaccine Works and WHEN TO GET IT

How the Flu Vaccine Works and WHEN TO GET IT
The flu vaccine works by exposing your immune system to proteins from influenza virus strains, prompting it to produce antibodies. If you encounter those strains later in the season, your immune system recognises them and responds quickly.
The UK typically uses a quadrivalent vaccine, which covers four influenza strains: two A strains and two B strains. The World Health Organisation selects the strains each year based on global surveillance and projections of which strains are most likely to circulate in the coming winter.
It takes approximately two weeks after vaccination to develop full protection.
Timing: the NHS campaign runs from October, but private flu vaccination is available year-round at our clinics. Getting vaccinated in September or early October gives your immune system time to build full protection before flu typically peaks between December and February. Vaccination later in the season still provides meaningful benefit.
Annual vaccination is recommended because each year's vaccine contains different strains from the previous year's, and the antibody response from a prior vaccination fades over time.
Flu Jab FAQs
Yes. We offer private flu vaccination at all ten of our UK clinics throughout the year, not just during the NHS winter campaign. Same-day appointments are often available.
The NHS offers the flu vaccine free of charge to adults over 65, pregnant women, those with certain long-term health conditions (including diabetes, heart disease, asthma and COPD), frontline health and social care workers, carers, and children aged two to eleven. If you are not in one of these groups, or if you want the vaccine sooner or at a time that suits you, private vaccination is the straightforward alternative.
Yes. The flu jab is safe at any stage of pregnancy and is recommended by the NHS and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Flu in pregnancy carries a higher risk of complications for both mother and baby. Vaccination is one of the most effective protective steps you can take during pregnancy.
Full protection typically develops within two weeks of vaccination. For this reason, it's best to get vaccinated before the flu season peaks, rather than at the first sign of illness in your household.
In most cases, yes. You can get the flu vaccine alongside many other routine and travel vaccinations. Your clinician will confirm at your pre-vaccination check whether you should receive any vaccines separately.
No. The injectable flu vaccine does not contain live virus and cannot cause flu. Some people experience mild symptoms such as fatigue or a low-grade fever after vaccination; these are immune responses, not flu.
Current pricing is on our booking page. Call us if you would like a quote before booking. No referral is needed.
Yes. We vaccinate children from age two. If you have a younger child who needs flu vaccination, speak to your GP about options available through the NHS for younger age groups.
The most common side effects are a sore or slightly swollen arm at the injection site, a low-grade fever, and mild fatigue for a day or two after vaccination. These are normal immune responses and pass quickly. Serious reactions are rare.
Yes. The influenza strains included in the vaccine change each year based on WHO surveillance. The previous year's vaccine does not reliably protect against this year's circulating strains, and antibody levels from prior vaccination also fade over the year.
Some flu vaccines are produced using cell-based or recombinant technology and are egg allergy testing. Speak to our team when booking if you have an egg allergy, and we will confirm which options are available at your appointment.
Adults over 65 have a reduced immune response to standard flu vaccines. The NHS uses an adjuvanted or high-dose vaccine for this age group, designed to produce a stronger immune response. Speak to our team when booking if you are over 65, and we will confirm the most appropriate vaccine for you.
