When Should London Travellers PRIVATELY IN LONDON?

When Should London Travellers PRIVATELY IN LONDON?
Timing depends on where you are going and which vaccines you need. Some require a course of two or three doses spread over several weeks, and cannot be completed in a single visit without an accelerated schedule.
As a practical guide for London patients:
- Eight to twelve weeks before departure: allow this much lead time if you are travelling to sub-Saharan Africa, South or South-East Asia, or South America. Rabies takes three doses over three to four weeks; Japanese encephalitis requires two doses at least one week apart.
- Four to six weeks before departure: sufficient for most standard travel vaccines, including hepatitis A, typhoid, hepatitis B and meningitis ACWY.
- Less than four weeks: come in as soon as you can: Many travel vaccines are single-dose and can be given immediately. Accelerated hepatitis B schedules are available for last-minute travellers.
For yellow fever, the certificate does not become valid until ten days after vaccination. For urgent pre-departure requirements at Heathrow or Gatwick, call us to check same-day availability.
What Your London TRAVEL HEALTH CONSULTATION INCLUDES
What Your London TRAVEL HEALTH CONSULTATION INCLUDES
Your travel health consultation at our Marylebone clinic covers more than a standard vaccine checklist. Your clinician will take a full account of your destination, itinerary, travel dates, planned activities, accommodation type and existing vaccination history, alongside any current medications or health conditions that may affect vaccine choice.
From there, they will confirm which vaccines are recommended or required, advise on malaria risk and suitable prophylaxis, and cover practical guidance on food and water safety, insect bite prevention, altitude sickness where relevant, and what to do if you fall ill abroad.
Where multiple vaccines are needed, most can be given at the same appointment. Where a staged course is required, follow-up doses are scheduled on the day. A written travel health record is issued before you leave.
Business travellers and those with frequent international schedules can also discuss ongoing travel health management at the consultation, including advice on destinations visited across a given year.

Common Destinations and the VACCINES YOU MAY NEED

Common Destinations and the VACCINES YOU MAY NEED
Requirements vary by destination, itinerary and individual health. The following is a general guide; your London clinician will confirm what applies to your specific trip.
London patients travel to a wider range of destinations than almost any other city. At our Marylebone clinic, we regularly see patients preparing for travel to West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal), East Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe), South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia and South America. Business travellers frequently need vaccines for sub-Saharan Africa, India and Southeast Asia on short timescales.
Africa: Hepatitis A, typhoid, yellow fever (required for entry to many countries), meningitis ACWY, rabies for rural or long-stay travel. Malaria prophylaxis for most of the continent.
South and South-East Asia: Hepatitis A, typhoid, hepatitis B, rabies, Japanese encephalitis for rural areas. Malaria prophylaxis for many destinations.
South America: Hepatitis A, typhoid, yellow fever, rabies for remote or jungle travel.
Middle East: Meningitis ACWY is a visa requirement for Hajj and Umrah. Hepatitis A for most destinations.
Routine vaccinations, including tetanus, diphtheria, polio and hepatitis B, should be confirmed up to date before any international travel.
